  • Who Killed the Golf Pro.?

Who Killed the Golf Pro.? (or ‘Return of the Golf Corpse!’)

No iffs or putts… this is an un-FORE-gettable comic murder mystery!

Golfing legend ‘Ricky Speed’ is Europe’s choice to face the American, ‘Penk Henkson’, in the forthcoming Cyder Cup… a one off sporting thriller designed to ‘pitch’ the world’s two best golfers up against one another.  Playboy Speed duly embarks upon a tour of all Britain’s most famous venues yet, strangely, also selects to play the third-rate course at the Hollybush Landings Golf Club. And it’s there, in the function room of the HLGS, that he meets a grisly end… hit over the head with a golfing trophy and then ‘impaled’ by the flag from the club’s eighteenth green. But who be so ‘rough’ as to consign poor old Ricky to that great golf course in the sky? Could it be...

William Shanks, the HLGC’s pompous, ego-driven President?

Golfing widow Kitty Shanks, sick of having to compete for her husband’s affection?

Delilah Bean, the HGLC’s ‘overly-hands-on’ Treasurer?

‘Putt’-upon Green Keeper, Arthur Dugdale, who’s struggling to prepare the course in time for its VIP guest?

 Or...

The dynamic Blitz Tempest, journalist for ‘the Hollybush Bugle’ who’ll stop at nothing in pursuit of a big scoop!?

The play is split into three acts and has a ‘running time’ of between 75 and 90 minutes (easily catering for a full murder mystery event). It has 6 characters, 3F/3M, and, although there’s no facility for doubling-up, the age range of the cast can be very flexible, basically... anyone of golfing age!?

‘Who Killed the Golf Pro.?’ will obviously appeal to golf/sports enthusiasts, but its mocking look at ‘golf’ in general widens its appeal to anyone enamoured of a good old rip-roaring murder mystery! The HLGC faces a race against time to solve the whodunit before the world descends on Hollybush Landings… as do the audience. Why not… ‘chip in’ and ‘join the club’!?

*This piece is a full-length, ‘dramatised’ version of the murderplays Mystery Short ‘Fairway to Heaven!’
