Ee
bah gum…
the most (Bos)Worth-y of murder mysteries!
‘Blackadder’
meets ‘Last of the Summer Wine’ in this hysterical-historical whodunit.
The
discovery of Duke William Longbottom’s headless skeleton during recent construction
work has created a bit of a national stir, something which celebrity ‘Spookbusters’,
Clare Voyant and Si Kick, have been eager to cash in on. The paranormal pair duly
invite you to the Longbottom’s family home, Snetterdale Castle on the Yorkshire/Lancashire
border, hoping to unearth the truth. Yet on summoning his grace’s troubled
spirit, we learn that not only did the Yorkist Duke come to a particularly grisly
end (inside his chamber on the same day as ‘the Battle of Bosworth’) but also
that he’s ‘reet miffed abaht ‘avin’ kicked’ t’bucket’, and he duly enlists
the services of Spookbusters in order to find out more…
But
who would do such a medi-evil thing…?
Franklin Bodge, the long-time servant to the
Longbottom family…
Brigitte de Bardot, William’s sixth wife, duchess of
Snetterdale...
Catherine Longbottom, their feisty, headstrong
daughter…
Brother Heathcliffe Nosferatus, monk and castle
‘divinator’…
Or…
Captain Lancelot G’Lant, William’s dashingly rakish
army captain?
Our TV ghosthunters require their Spookbusting audience to identify which of the phantasmic five is a Yorkshire Pudding and who’s the Yorkshire Terrier…!!
‘Who
Killed T’Duke?’ is ‘a reet champion piece’ which satirises both
‘History’ and ‘the rivalry between Yorkshire and Lancashire’*. Its larger-than-life
characters and tongue-in-cheek humour are guaranteed to appeal to a lively troupe.
(*Comments added to the script where indicated, will make the piece relevant to any region.)
‘Who
Killed t’Duke’ is a three Act play with a running time of between 75 and 85 minutes
(yet with gaps in between the acts for clues to be discussed and answersheets
filled in (plus refreshments served?) it easily provides for a full evening’s
entertainment). The piece requires 9 actors, 6M/3F. Yet as the celebrity
paranormalists can be played by an actor of either sex, it’s also possible to
be staged with either 5M/4F or 7M/2F.
All
9 characters have significant roles.
‘Who
Killed T’Duke?’ can also be presented under the alternative title, ‘My Kingdom
for a Hearse!’

‘Who
