They think it’s all over, and for ex-footballer Bob Slayer… it is now! The beautiful game turns ugly in this 70s themed murder-mystery.
Set in 1974, ‘Who Killed the Football Manager?’ harks back to a time when the noble game was played by real men… with bubble perms! The action finds retired international* footballer Bob ‘the hatchet’ Slayer washed up at Willow Garth School. He’s chosen PE teaching for a quiet life.... but when his troubled past catches up with him, it proves to be anything but! Slayer once scored the winning goal in the great Under 21 World Cup final of 1950. Following this, however, he went off the rails, more interested in TV ads, glamour models and Ford Capri’s than gracing the 'theatre of dreams'. And he’s certainly paying for it now. Headmistress, Miss Armstrong-Payne, demands glory on the sports field yet when Bob ‘takes a dive’ after eating a slice of birthday cake there are no shortage of suspects to his murder. Could it be…?
Miss Armstrong-Payne, the fearsome Headmistress.
Trudy Goodnight, an ex-Beauty Queen.
Patti O’Dorr, a pushy parent.
Matt, her moody son, and school team goal-keeper.
Miss Daisy Chain, the newly appointed PE mistress
Steve Swift, a writer who’s currently penning Bob's biography. Or…
Terry Towling, Bob’s ex-football agent.
Detective Inspector Spence and his inept sidekick Watkins are dispatched to sniff out 'foul-play’ and deliver someone a ‘red card’!
'Who Killed the Football Manager?’ is a one hour, twenty minute play for 11 actors- 4 males, 4 females and 3 of either sex (although with doubling-up it could be performed with a few as 9 performers).

(*The play indicates that Bob once played for 'England' yet this can easily be changed to any nationality relevant to the venue.)
