My Big Fat Greek 'Deading'!
The Greek tragedy of Olympus-sized proportions!
‘Hooray,
hooray it’s a ‘wally’ holi-day…!’
The
action takes place at ‘the Spit of the Ocean Apartments’ in the coastal village
of Kalamateya, on the picturesque Greek island of Minaksoss. It’s there, on a scorching summer’s afternoon, that
holiday rep. ‘Kim Snead’s’ Welcome Meeting takes on added significance. On this
occasion Snead’s primary objective is not to sell lacklustre trips at hugely
extortionate process, but to ask the audience for their help in solving a
particularly ‘Corfu-sing’ murder. German holidaymaker Wolfgang Von Humpf has
been discovered dead, splayed out on his sunbed, with all the clues pointing to
him having met a grisly ‘feta’. But which scheming ‘Partha-Non-Entities’ would
be so cruel as to pack poor old Wolfie off to that to that great resort beyond
the clouds? Snead, plus Senior Holiday Co-Ordinator ‘Mel Pitts’, embark upon a
highly ‘dis-Crete’ game of ‘hide and tzatziki’ in the hope of smoking out the
culprits. These include…
‘Nipper Jenkins’ and ‘Terry
Winks’ (aka ‘the Cocktail Crew’), two young men anxious to soak up as much of
Greece as possible.
Popular lifeguard and
hotel entertainer, ‘Jazz Handz’.
And, put-upon hotel
receptionist, ‘Margaret Craven’.
And with the future of the
entire resort at stake, the cry goes up from the reps., ‘Please help us,
because, right now… it’s all just Greek to me!’
‘My Big Fat Greek Deading!’
is a comic Mystery Short that satirises package holidays. Its ‘fun in the sun’ atmosphere
naturally lends itself to performances during the summer… or is equally valid throughout
the rest of the year, if only to remind everyone of those long ‘stress-free’
days around the pool!?
‘My Big Fat Greek Deading!’
requires 6 actors, 2F/2M plus 2 of either sex. This particular play has more of
a ‘youthful edge’ to it. It’s implied that the characters Nipper, Terry and
Jazz are youthful party-seekers (ie 18 to 30?). The other 3 actors can be of any
age.
