It’s lights, camera, action… and murder! Fred Kellett’s departure from the cheesy soap opera ‘Ravenscar’ rivals any of the strorylines he’s ever acted in, yet murder was definitely not in the script!
Frederick Kellett plays ‘Solomon Wainwright’ in the northern soap, ‘Ravenscar’. Yet when he plans to leave the cowpats and dry stone walling for the bright lights of Hollywood, all manner of bitterness, jealousy and intrigue start to surface. And when he dies in ‘the Black Bull’ pub shooting his final episode, there’s uproar! But who’s been tampering with the props, and why now? The cast and crew of the ‘hammy’ programme form the list of suspects…
Mary Makepeace, who plays the tenacious landlady ‘Sandy Beeches’…
Alan Battersby, who plays ‘Rupert Barratt-Holmes’ the swarthy, pompous landowner…
Hilda Kensington, Ravenscar’s local busybody…
Trixie Spangle, the glamorous barmaid whose looks far surpass her talent…
Naïve Sebastian Warren, who plays ‘Chad Denver’ the village heart-throb…
Giles Stanton, the over-sensitive scriptwriter... and…
Florence White, the headstrong director with a colourful past.
Inspector Westcott and Gilly Foreshore from ‘Star Spangled’ magazine are tasked to winkle out the truth, while a nation of goggleboxers tune in to find out the results!
‘Who Killed the Soap Star?’ is a one hour fifteen minute comic play with 12 named characters- 4 male, 4 female and 4 of either (although with doubling-up it can be performed with 10 actors). It parodies soap operas and has a tongue in cheek swipe at ‘acting’ in general… something that’s bound to appeal to any society (and audience)!
