The barn-storming murder mystery that knocks spots off a dalmatian!
Welcome to the Crooked Stile Veterinary Practice in the village of Sandy Bottom, Sparrowdale. It’s here that the nation’s favourite Sunday tea-time vet show, ‘Country Piles’ (a genuine whiff of the country!), is filmed. The show has been fronted for ten years by Leo Cooperthwaite, an award-winning peacock-of-a-presenter (voted ‘Dishiest Presenter of a Country-based TV Show’ for three years running). But when Leo’s murdered during filming, the show’s audience are presented with a unique opportunity... to review the footage and become ‘pet detectives’ themselves and try and work out whodunit. Will they succeed and Win-a-lot, or will they find themselves barking up the wrong tree?
But which pair was it who consigned poor Leo
to a pet cemetery? Suspects from among the show’s employees
include…
‘Warren Pearce’, the
show’s hang-dog producer?
‘Polly Webster’ Leo’s
co-presenter and aspiring vet? And…
Apprentice cameraperson,
‘Clay Pigeon’.
Or could it have
been one of the Crooked Stile’s loyal customers…
Pensioner, ‘Kitty
Wimples and her cat Toots’*?
Leo’s ‘number one
fan’, ‘Bunny Afterglow and her dog Chumley Barkington’*? Or…
Bull-ish farmer ‘Ted Guppy’?
(*The animal characters are portrayed onstage by
cuddly toys yet treated as real by the cast.)
Pets, pet owners, and cosy nature-based
television programmes are all satirised in this comic slice of ‘Animal Magic’. ‘Who
Killed the Vet?’ has an approximate running time of one hour and fifteen
minutes and requires a cast of 7 actors (either 3M/4F or 4M/3F). All characters
have significant roles.
