The business of murder has been so profitable!
Finkley’s ‘Dramatic and Operatic Performance Experience Society’ (the DOPES) are staging their annual murder mystery fundraiser, a terribly-written Cleudo-style piece called ‘Death in an Indecent Manor’.  Yet when their star actor, Hugh De Mann, is killed onstage, hit by a falling chandelier, the remaining cast and crew become embroiled in a murder mystery all of their own.
Yet who’s responsible for giving Finkley’s leading luvvie his final curtain call? Could it be...
*Mel O’Drama, DOPES’ long-suffering director?
Barbara Seville, the ‘veteran’ performer with a reliance on what she calls her ‘special medicine’?
Holly Wood, DOPES’ straight-talking treasurer?
Kurt Ancall, the clueless young actor (but he’s a man so he’s definitely in!)
Or Carrie Oakie the ambitious newcomer.
The word ‘cut’ has never had such a sinister double-meaning in a whodunit that parodies the whole amateur dramatic experience!
(This piece, unlike the other Mystery Shorts, is a genuine ‘murder mystery’, and although it’s written to be staged by a line of actors reading, could also be expanded into a fully staged performance. In this way ‘Murder in an Indecent Manor’ becomes a mini-murder mystery in its own right and an excellent introduction to murderplays full length pieces.)
