The Murder Mystery that really nails the (Pelican) Brief!!
Welcome to the Library at ‘Flemm-on-the-Water’ where ex-Detective Inspector ‘Shirley Finch’ is about to host a Book Launch. ‘May the Force be With You’, is a non-fiction work based on his/her experiences ‘in the line of duty’. But instead of reading from it like most authors do, Finch has enlisted Flemm’s local drama group to re-enact the most disturbing case he/she ever faced, and then challenge the audience to solve it. The ‘Flemm Operatic Performance Society’ (FOPS) then take us back to 5th January 2020 (Twelfth Night) to stage a reconstruction of Finch’s investigation into the murder of the world’s most famous thriller writer, ‘Howard Sharp’. When the Inspector Calls he/she finds Sharp lying on the kitchen floor of his mansion (a particularly Bleak House called ‘Gusty Ramparts’). It was immediately apparent that Sharp had kicked the Charlie ‘Bucket’ after being hit over the head with his own writing award. But which pair are devious enough to bring about Howard’s End? Suspects include…
‘Lolita Sharp’, Howard’s glamorous fourth
wife, and lady of leisure.
‘Cameron Darcy’, Lolita’s ‘extremely well-proportioned’
tennis Instructor.
‘Rose Harker’, Howard’s cranky book publisher at
Saddlebag Books.
Or...
‘Ian Bond’, A rather secretive Computer Technician.
‘Books’, ‘writing’, and ‘literature in general’ are satirised in this Charlotte’s Web of a murder mystery. ‘Book-ed for Murder!’ has an approximate running time of one hour and requires a cast of 6 actors (either 4M/2F or 3M/3F). All characters have significant roles.
